Compassion & Choices is the largest and oldest organization advocating for choice in dying in the United States. Originally founded in 1980 as the Hemlock Society, we work to improve care and expand choice for patients facing a terminal illness. How long have you been in business?
Compassion & Choices was founded in 1980 as the Hemlock Society. We have been in business for 30 years.
What is your primary product or service?
Our primary service is to provide counseling and support for terminally ill patients and their families as they face difficult decisions at the end of their lives.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I've always believed in the rights of individuals to choose their own paths in life. This is simply another choice that each of us, no matter how we've spent our lives, will have to face at some point.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We are the only choice in dying organization that not only provides support for terminally ill patients and their families, but also advocates for less restrictive laws and choice-in-dying legislation.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We have two offices, one in Denver and one in Portland, OR. We also have volunteers who work with patients all over the United States.
